“The Spa at Willow Bend” logo (designed and created by building and spa owner, Dr. Samuel Lam) embodies the Japanese word Enso that means “circle” and is a concept strongly associated with Zen. Enso is often painted in Japanese calligraphy and symbolizes enlightenment, strength, elegance, the universe, and the void. It is an expression of the moment and can be considered a form of expressionist art.
Zen Buddhists believe that the character of the artist can be fully revealed through his interpretation of enso with only those who are spiritually and mentally complete who can create a true enso. Often the artist paints the enso daily as part of his spiritual journey.
The enso can be painted with the circle open or closed. Dr. Lam created his circle open to symbolize the ongoing, imperfect journey that we go through in life and the need for continuous self-renewal and healing that this spa offers. Life is not about the destination, but the journey to get there. We hope you enjoy your shared journey with us.
