What is the Melanage Skin Lightening Peel?Melanage skin lightening and skin lightening skin care
Do you have uneven skin tone, deep pigment issues or melasma?  The Melanage Skin Lightening Peel is a superficial peel designed to improve the texture and appearance of hyperpigmented skin which involves a medicate masque and an at-home regimen. This peel is safe and effective for all skin types including dark skin. There is no pain and little-to-no irritation during the application of the mask, and typically, the irritation level on the following days is more like a sunburn.

What does the Melanage Peel help correct?

  • Melasma
  • Sun Damage
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Texture

How does the Melanage Peel work?
Melanage 1 Masque is applied during an office visit, where it is compounded freshly to ensure its potency and reliability.  The application of Melanage 1 Masque takes approximately 20 minutes.  A uniform layer of Melanage is applied.  No discomfort is experienced and patients describe procedure as soothing and relaxing.  It is recommended to tie back your hair away from face, to avoid getting product in it. Patients leave the office with this masque on their face. The masque will remain on face for 5 to 10 hours according to the patient’s skin type.  The rest of your treatment will continue at home and will involve several follow up visits with during the first month. Patients are responsible for adhering to an easy-to-follow, by strict, at-home regimen involving the application of several Melanage products following masque removal.

How many Melanage Peel treatments will I need?
Only one treatment is initially recommended but a touch-up treatment can be performed on problem spots after one month.  If needed, treatments can be repeated every 6 months.

What will I experience after the Melanage Peel treatment?

  • Your skin may have a light yellow tinge immediately after removal of the masque.  This is temporary and will fade in a few hours.
  • Your skin may be more red than usual and slightly tight after removal of the masque and for the next seven days.
  • Approximately 48 hours after the treatment your skin will start to peel which will generally last 2-5 days.
  • Patients must follow the at-home regimen for optimal results.  You will be provided, at no additional charge, with an at-home skincare product kit containing an Anti-Redness Foaming Cleanser, Anti-Redness Soothing Balm, Antioxidant Soothing Balm Sunscreen SPF 30, and Melanage 2 Crème.  This kit is valued at about $250 and should last about 3 months.

What results can I expect with the Melanage Peel?
Results will vary but generally patients will see a significant improvement in the appearance of pigmented areas.  Dark spots will lighten and skin texture and tone will improve.  Although most patients experience peeling of their skin, not every patient will notice this.  If you do not notice actual peeling, please know that you are skill receiving all the benefits of The Melanage Skin Lightening Peel, such as: stimulation of collagen production, improvement of skin tone and texture, and diminution of fine lines and pigmentation.

Who should not be treated with the Melanage Peel?
The Melanage Skin Lightening Peel SHOULD NOT be used on patients with active cold sores or warts, skin with open wounds, sunburn, excessively sensitive skin, dermatitis or inflammatory rosacea in the area to be treated.  Inform the staff if you have any history of herpes simplex.  You should also not have a Melanage Skin Lightening Peel if you have a history of allergies, rashes or other skin reactions, or may be sensitive to any of the components of this treatment.  This peel is not recommended if you have taken Accutane within the past year, or received chemotherapy or radiation therapy.  The Melanage Peel Peel should not be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding (lactating) women.
